Project
Overview
The National Print Museum is the only one of its kind in Ireland. Along with its wonderful print memorabilia and displays, it also has a real focus on interactive exhibits. All of the printing machines and exhibits are in working order and visitors are encouraged to interact with them. Visitors get the chance to take part in a printing activity as part of their experience and the museum prides itself on being not just informative, but fun also. As a crucial custodian of cultural heritage and an enjoyable place to be, the National Print Museum manages to balance these roles perfectly. The new website for museum needed to reflect its status as a welcoming, unstuffy and engaging place to visit. With this in mind OPEN went for an approach which was fresh and unlike most other museums.
The Solutions
The new National Print Museum website functions on a range of levels; as a national cultural collection, a place for visitors and researchers and a living institution where heritage is brought to life. The new website redefines the museum user journey. It provides an enhanced way of showcasing collections. It streamlines bookings both for tours and workshops. It breathes new life into the museum online shop and it makes finding online resources easier. The holistic approach taken by OPEN linked all the museum moving parts and transformed not only how people take in the website visually and accessibly, but also in how they use it; broadening its appeal and experience.
We’re delighted to have such a dynamic and design-forward website, which truly reflects the Museum’s mission, the nature of the working collection, and our activities. Open Design did a fantastic job putting our vision into practice, and we really appreciate all of their hard work - and out-of-the-box thinking! They were such a pleasure to work with, and we felt they really understood not only our website brief, but also the Museum and mission as a whole.
